A Camera on the Somme Exhibition Touring Australia

Late in 2009, the ‘A Camera on the Somme’ photographicGrinton_WW1_lr
exhibition visited the Bendigo Art Gallery.

This extraordinary exhibition showcases images taken by two Australian soldiers, Jack and Bert Grinton, during the First World War between 1916 and 1919.

The exhibition reveals the development and artistry of amateur photography as the images, previously lost for 90 years and later found in a biscuit tin, capture people and places which were often overlooked by official war photographers.

This year the exhibition will tour other galleries across Queensland and Victoria, which are listed below:

Ipswich Art Gallery, QLD
23 January – 21 March 2010

Mc Clelland Gallery and Sculpture Park, VIC
25 April – 27 June 2010

Shrine of Remembrance, VIC
October 2010 – February 2011
