Colour Factory Gallery & Asia Pacific Photobook Archive are proud to present Jacob Raupach’s exhibition, As Good as Gold. Jacob’s exhibition is formed from select photographs out of his 2013 publication, ‘Radiata’, which is now part of the APPA collection.

‘Radiata’ is an historical archive that explores the mythology of the timber industry through a collection of selected newspaper images from the Tumut timber boom of the 1980s. The work navigates between historical propaganda and banal vernacular, questioning the reliance of rural townships upon resource-based industries.

‘Radiata’ was the grand prize winner of the 2013 Student Photobook Competition organised by the Asia-Pacific Photobook Archive and was judged by: Phil Virgo, Dr Shaune Lakin, Heidi Romano, Katrin Koenning, Gianni Frinzi, Clare Rae, Ash Kerr, Linsey Gosper, Dan Rule, Justine Ellis, Helen Frajman & Daniel Boetker-Smith. The competition runners-up were Emma Barrett and Briony Galligan.

Since winning the competition ‘Radiata’ has featured on numerous international ‘best photobooks of the year’ lists.

A new edition of Jacob’s book will be on sale during the exhibition.

Throughout the exhibition the 10 books shortlisted for the competition will also be on display. All of the books submitted for the competition will be on view at the Asia-Pacific Photobook Archive – located just down the road from Colour Factory (neighbours!).
